Here are some pics from Muskogee early days contributed by Mike Pogue. Does anyone know who the #1 car is in the first 2 pics. It is from Ft Smith. Attachments:

Great pictures. The #1 car is Bill Farmer from Muskogee. Ask Mr. Pogue, how big of a crowd was there on the night that this wreck happened.

I haven't heard back with an answer yet. I don't know if Mike was even there that night, but back in those days Muskogee crowds were generally very large. Wait this just in Mike said he was not there that night he didn't have clue. After blowing the pic up it looks like Ray Rainey's name above the door. I will be talking to Ray soon and I will ask him if he remembers.

Ray Rainey is on the case. He said he don't think he every drove a car with #1 and he thinks it might have been Glen Cohea from Ft Smith. He said he will start checking to find out. Any body else got any ideas?

I have a Thunderbird Speedway program, Vol. 6 #2 from 1970 which has this picture in it. The result page is dated March 27 1970. On the front cover, at the bottom in bold print it reads "5,000 FANS OPEN SEASON."

Ray said after he thought about it, he did drive this car for Glenn Cohea back when Glenn had both legs broke. He said that he had won several features with the car.

If the official speedway news program is accepted as a creditable source? The first picture in this post, of the #1 car. Which is sponsored by Freeway service sta. & wrecker service. This very picture is printed in a 1970 program, and under the picture it reads (What's left of BILL FARMER'S CAR #1 is shown here after wreckers pulled it off the wall in turn # three). Also in the same program is a Tastee-Freez salute to Ray Rainey. Ray is pictured beside a car with the # F-97 and the name Red Farmer on the door.

I think the program is a great source. I also have a 1970 program volume 6 number 7 with Ron Fowler on the front that in the point standings shows Ray as running 3rd in points as #5 and Bill running 20th in points as #2. I might be wrong but I don't think it was said that Ray was driving when the car when it was crashed, it was said that it looked like maybe his name above the door, but would check with him to see if he remembered. If your program was vol 6 #2 I would assume Bill crashed it the 2nd night of racing that year which would explain why he is 20th in points and running #2 four weeks later. Ray only remembers driving the car later after it was probably rebuilt and into 1971 for Glen Cohea. Which means possibly everybody is right just different time frames. The F-97 was a car that Ray told me he had bought from Red Farmer in Ala. He thinks that pic you have must have been taken on play day because he said he never raced it with those colors or number.
